Nikon D3200

This is the camera that the school can offer us to take images of. This is a dslr, which stands for digital single lens reflex this means that you can change the lens of the camera and are able to look at the subjects through the camera whilst taking the photo. They produce high quality images. This is a portable camera so we are able to take it around with us and take it outside; however as this is the schools equipment we cannot take it off site. There is also only 4 cameras so we have to book to be able to use them, they are also battery powered so we have to tell the teachers in advance so they can charge them otherwise they might run out of battery when we use them. When you put the camera on manual mode you are able to adjust the aperture, shutter speed, ISO and white balance. The aperture changes the amount of light let in by how wide the lens is open, this changes the depth of field changing the how large the focus is in the photo. The shutter speed changes how fast the picture is taken – having a long shutter speed you will need a tripod. With these settings you can change the exposure of the image, as I am doing a rock magazine the colours are dark so I may use a dark exposure for my images to show this.

Tripod - Velbon sherpa 450R

This is a very good tripod, it is very sturdy and can extend to 173cm so we can take high angle shots easily. We are able to move it vertically and horizontally so you are able to do a tilt and a pan. Using a tripod makes sure that there is stability in your image otherwise if you are using a long shutter speed the picture would look blurry as you physically can’t keep a camera still. We are able to take the tripod around school however you cannot take it on terrains such as grass, mud and gravel as this wouldn’t make the images stable as they aren’t flat surfaces, also this could cause damage to the equipment. As this is school equipment you are not allowed to take it out of school. But using a tripod ensures that you get industry standard photos.

Flash gun - Jessops 360 AFDN

The flash gun is used as a flash to light up an image when you take a photo. You do this by attaching the flashgun to the camera by the hot-shoe on the top of the camera this means that the camera and the flashgun are connected allowing the flash gun to work in sync with the camera when It takes a picture. On a flash gun you are able to change the brightness of the flash, you can either do this on the flash gun or actually on the camera making it easy for you to adjust it. You are also allowed to change the colour of the light to a more whiter light and also you are allowed to add a diffusion effect to it, this makes the light a lot more feint adding a more spooky effect and less prominent as the light isn’t as strong. The limitations of this equipment is that it is battery powered so we have to make sure its charged before we use it, if we then have used it often it can burn out meaning that we would have to wait for it to come back on

Infrared trigger - Interfit

The infrared trigger is an assesory that can be connected to your camera by the hot-shoe, the infrared sensor communcates with other lights in the room to flash at the same time by using pulsating beams of light to trigger the lights to flash. As the infrared trigger can be attached to the camera this means that its portable so you can take it out with you, however this means that its battery powered so you have to make sure its charged before you go out and use it.

Studio Lighting
3 point lighting

This technique of lighting involves using 3 lights, the key light, the fill light and the backlight.

Rembrandt lighting - This is a lighting technique that is used in studio portrait photography. It can be achieved using a light and a reflector, or two lights. This allows half of a face to be blacked out.

This lighting can make the image seem dark and mysterious. This lighting usually leaves a triangle like shape on the opposite side of the face from where the key light is. Im thinking of using this in my music magazine poster as this adds mystery to the model which a lot of rock artists want and i think that this will appeal to my target audience.

Wix
Photoshop cs6

Wix is a website creater which i will be using to present my coursework. Wix is an excellent website creating site as it allows us eaily to upload work, and allowing us to present our work in galleries and having various amount of tool supports this.

Photoshop is an editing software which i will be using to edit the final task in the construction setting. This is a very good editing software as it is easily accesible and with its advanced tools allows us to use it to our full potential enabling us to create a well structured magazine.
