Front cover of our student magazine:
I have decided to position the masthead at the top of the student magazine as this is where the reader automatically looks when trying to find something to read. The text will be bold to represent the masses of personalities within the school, as well as to be simple and not too overwhelming for the teenagers to read.
The main image will be in the centre of the magazines front cover as this is where I think the audience focuses their attention the most and due to the preliminary task requirements the image will be a medium close up of our model.
A pug will be used which is designed to attract the attention of the reader with its short, but intriguing text. As pugs are like stickers, the one that I will be placing on my magazine will stand out against the background as it will be bold and opaque in colour. Inside the pug I may use a puff to boost the status of my magazine and to attract a larger audience.
The main headline on the front cover of my magazine will be located near to my main images head as this is where the audience focus their eyes on the most. The strapline underneath this will entice the reader and attract them further by giving extra information or I may even use a pull quote.
Contents page of our student magazine:
The contents page will have a masthead at the very top to indicate to the reader that this is the page in which holds small pieces of information which will guide you onto different pages. There will be many headlines on this page which link to the other pages in the magazine and there will be numbers which correspond with the specific pages. Underneath these headlines, I will place straplines which give further information to the reader about the headline and attract the reader with an extremely summary or statement.
As decided with my partner, I have placed one main image on the student magazine with many other images surrounding it to allow the reader to have an insight of what is featured in our magazine. This in turn will attract the reader and make them want to continue reading the rest of our magazine.
There could be a pull quote positioned under the masthead as this is one of the main areas in which the reader looks at the most- along with the main image. Due to this, the pull quote will entice the reader and make them want to find out more about a particular issue in the magazine.

Rock magazine front cover:
The masthead will be located at the very top of our music magazines front cover as this is the place in which is most visible when stacked up with other magazines. On a magazine shelf, the top of any magazine is the only thing that can be seen; therefore the masthead needs to be bold and at the top to catch the attention of the reader when walking past or browsing in a shop. The font that the masthead is in will suit the genre of our magazine, rock, so that the audience can be aware straight away what our magazine revolves around. Along with other members of the public, this will specifically attract those who have a keen interest in rock magazines.
The main image will be positioned over the majority of the page so that it catches the audience’s attention. By using an artist which is popular within the rock music industry and placing them directly in the centre of the magazine, I will attract a larger audience due to them having a large fan base and supporters. When doing the photo-shoot for my rock magazine, I will potentially ask my models to be looking directly at the camera so that they can have a connection with the audience, which will result in more sells.
A barcode, along with the price of the magazine will be situated in the bottom right corner rather than in middle to the right so that it doesn’t distract the audience from the main content on the front cover. Both will ensure that the audience is aware that there is a small charge for the magazine and hopefully sway them into buying our magazine as we would like to consider that the magazine is good value for money.
The date of release will be positioned underneath the masthead so that the reader knows whether the particular issue is relevant to them, especially if they want to read up about recent news events within the rock world.
A headline will always be relevant to the main image on the front cover so that the audience can gain knowledge of why that particular artist/musician/band is important to that issue. As well as this, I will place many other headlines around the main image so that the audience can be aware of other main stories in the magazine, which they wouldn’t know about unless looking at the contents page. Underneath these headlines I will place small straplines to entice the reader as well as allow them gain extra information which results in them wanting to read the full story.
A pug will be used to attract the reader and promote a particular article within the magazine. It may also feature a puff inside which will boost the status of the magazine and advertise features within it.
Pull quotes, most likely to be taken from the article in which the main image links to, will be used to intrigue the buyer and make them want to purchase the magazine. Since they can be controversial, factual or humorous, they typically make the audience want to find out more about the article, resulting in the reader buying the magazine.

Rock magazine contents page:
The masthead will be positioned at the top of the contents page and follow the house style of the magazine. Like all pages within any magazine, it will be used to inform the reader of what the page features and covers. It will be large and bold to attract the reader and indicate to them that this is the page in which can be used to locate them to various other pages.
The main image will cover the majority of the contents page and link to the main article in the magazine. The image will be relevant to the rock genre, so it possible that the model is strumming a guitar, playing the drums or even be simply looking at the audience.
The headlines will link to every page within the magazine and will have corresponding page numbers so that the reader can easily turn to specific pages. A pull quote might as a headline to further attract the reader to a specific article because it allows them to have an insight into what that particular article is about.
A pug will be used to lure in the attention of the audience and make them look forward to reading a particular page. This is because a pug is a promotional visual “sticker” which always contains a short and catchy sentence that entices the reader.

Rock magazine double page spread:
Like all the other pages mentioned, the masthead will be positioned at the top of the first page or continue across both pages on the double page spread. It will be the largest piece of text on the page and the text will link to the article featured further down on that page. Furthermore it will be in a font which links to the rock genre.
The main image will cover the majority of the double page spread and will link to the article it is positioned next to. It will attract the reader because the image will be a famous rock musician, therefore will encourage the reader to read the article as it may be a great piece of text to read- just like the image.
I will have smaller images around the main piece of text so that the reader doesn’t feel overwhelmed with information. It will also make my magazines double spread look more attractive and will let the reader link the article to the images and vision the interview.
The majority of my text will be an interview with the artist who is featured in my main image. It will be laid out in a professional manner by being positioned in columns as well as have a drop cap at the beginning of the text. Due to not wanting to overwhelm the audience will tonnes of unnecessary information, I will keep the interview short and snappy so that the amount of text doesn’t deter my audience from wanting to read it.
A pull quote will be placed near to my main piece of text so that it entices the reader and makes them want to read the whole piece of text.
